Wear anti static Wrist Wrap!

Why would I say that?

Well, here is the scenario. Today I get the call from this guy. He says I get no video on my monitor screen. I asked if he has checked the cables, he replied yes he has. So I proceed to question to sort of backtrack the problem to find out what might caused this issue.

so he tells me he went to Frys electronics to get some RAM. He got it and put it in and his computer stopped working. It turns on ok, but nothing comes on the screen.

After several tries to do everything possible he can, he decided to give up and find a reliable computer repair shop. He went online turned on google punched in “computer repair encino” and found us. (what a lucky guy! -him)

So we talked for a moment and 25 minutes later he brought his computer here. I did some tests and determined, his video card was fine, and computer itself was turning on fans are working, hard drives working like its new.

but what wasn’t working – is motherboard. there were no beeps, when RAM was completely out, there was no noises. So thats my obvious prediction. Static. Static killed the motherboard. NO question about it.

thats why everytime you do something like this, even as easy as changing RAM, you must wear an anti-static wrist wrap. or at least ground yourself out by touching a metal frame in the house or a little screw on the outlet cover or something that is grounded. You don’t know what charge you’re carrying at the time so beware!

You can get one of these wraps here:
