how to do a keyword research
keyword research, as well as becoming good in internet marketing is on much deeper level than just learning how to get your page up.
to be able to do a great keyword research it all has to start with psychology of your market. You must to be able to get in their shoes and figure out ways how would they search for your product or service. this is the key.
if you sell cushions to sit on, you can look for obvious keywords, which could be “cushion”, “soft cushion”, leather cushion, etc.
and also for not so obvious ones. like “back pain remedy” or “prevent spine problems”. These are what I call inferred keywords, that do have a connection with the product you are selling, but in an inferred or implied way. Because if person has back problems and they are looking for pills to cure, they can also use your cushion to prevent problem.
1. Usually you start with a quick brain storming session of any possible keyword combination in a given niche, industry or field.
you can use keywordspy.com to see what your competitors are bidding on to get some ideas.
and just build a list of most common ones or whatever you can come up with.
2. if you are targeting local keywords, it would be wise to make a list of local municipalities in the whatever radius you want, where you want to do business. and after you do go here:
now in the left column put list of all keyword you have come up with and in second column put in all cities and town you’ve come up with.
and combine them.
you should have something like this:
cushions new york
cushions chicago
soft cushions new york
soft cushions chicago
etc.
we basically combined all possible combinations from the two columns that you had.
3. The results you must copy and paste them into googles keyword tool
you can find it here:
https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal
after you do, paste the keywords into the word/phrase line and hit search. this will show you how many searches approximately all those keywords get. Keep in mind results in external keyword tool are probably based on global scale. This means people all over the world. or in english speaking places, assuming your chosen language was english.
4. now you see what is being searched for most. However, you’re only half way there. now you want to get the top performing keywords and run some more tests on them.
another tool you can use for that is google trends. google trends at google.com/trends
will show you the geography of where the keyword is being searched most. This a lot of types eliminates most of the keywords if you see that they are only being searched in phillipines and asia and you sell products in US only. Those keywords are obviously not good.
5. The idea here is to pickup some low hanging fruit – keywords. Which means under exploited keywords which get searches, but not that many people bid on or rank for SEO.
this is good for adwords and SEO, really. the more keywords you can discover people search for and no one competes for them the better for you.
use your mind creatively, use some tools, read about the industry, think indirectly – find links to the products you sell.

if youre selling within an niche, it could be simple. if you sell picture frames, it won’t be so difficult to determine the keywords, because for the most part they will be variations of picture frame
example:
wooden frames, plastic picture frames, carved frames, etc…
im not an expert on picture frames, however if you can come up with so
